Patient Preparation

Throat:

  • Insert swab to throat making contact with both tonsils and posterior pharyngeal wall.
  • Avoid making contact with inside of cheeks or tongue.

Rectal:

  • Insert swab into the rectum past the anal margin ( the outside of the anus) and rotate the swab 5-10 times. 
  • Avoid making contact with skin during insertion and removal of swab.

Throat or rectal swab collection with Aptima Multiswab Collection Kit. (Orange)  

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 7 days.

Refrigerated: 7 days.

Frozen: Unacceptable.

Minimum Volume

Entire swab collection kit with liquid medium.
