Collection

Patient Preparation:

  •  Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
  • Wash hand but avoid cleaning urinary opening areas before collection.
  • Begin urinating, fill cup up with 15-20mL of "Dirty" (first catch) urine and stop urinating.
  • Finish urinating in toilet.

Specimen Type:

  • Preferred: Female and male urine- Aptima Urine Collection Kit. 

  • Acceptable: Female and male urine collected in sterile container.

Minimum Volume:

  • 15mL (Urine must be able to fill Aptima Urine Collection Kit tube between black line window.

Reject Due To:

  • Urine under or overfilled (must be between black lines.)
  • Specimen does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 

  • Raw Urine- 8 hours
  • Aptima Urine Collection Kit- 7 days.

Refrigerated: 

  • Raw Urine- 24 hours
  • Aptima Urine Collection Kit- 7 days.

Frozen: Unacceptable
