Patient Preparation

Urine Collection, dirty (first catch) urine (approximately 15-20 mL of initial urine stream). Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.

Avoid cleaning areas before collection.

Specimen Type

Preferred:

  • Female and male urine- Aptima Urine Collection Kit. 

Acceptable:

  • Female and male urine collected in sterile container.

Specimen Stability

Ambient:

  • Raw urine specimen: 8 hours
  • Aptima Urine Collection Kit: 7 days

Refrigerated

  • Raw urine specimen: 24 hours
  • Aptima Urine Collection Kit: 7 days

Frozen: Unacceptable

Volume: 20-30mL of first catch (dirty) urine collection.

Minimum Volume

20mL 

Urine must be able to fill Aptima Urine Collection Kit tube between black line window.
