Collection

Patient Preparation:

  • Avoid cleaning areas of collection.
  • Vagina
    • Carefully insert swab 2-3 inches into vaginal canal. Gently rotate for 10-30 seconds, making sure swab touches vaginal wall.
  • Endocervical
    • Carefully insert swab into endocervical canal. Gently rotate for 10-30 seconds.
  • Male Urethra
    • Carefully insert swab into urethra. Gently rotate for 2-3 seconds. 

Specimen Type:

  • Endocervical and male urethral: Aptima Unisex Swab Collection Kit.
  • Vaginal: Aptima Multiswab Collection Kit.
  • Gynecological (Pap) specimens: Surepath liquid Pap specimen.

Minimum Volume:

  • Aptima urogenital swab: Entire Swab.
  • SurePath liquid Pap specimen: 1mL

Reject Due To: 

  • Specimen tube with no swab.

  • Specimen does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 7 days.

Refrigerated: 7 days.

Frozen: Unacceptable
