Important Note

  • Transport original tubes at room temperature.
  • A separate ETDA (lavender top) tube must be submitted for all HLA testing. If submitted with any other test requiring an EDTA tube, please submit a separate tube for this test.
  • DO NOT OPEN TUBE.
  • If possible, avoid collecting on Fridays. To ensure that specimens can be processed prior to the 4-day stability, it is preferred that collections and submissions occur to arrive at Pathology Laboratory Monday through Thursday.

Patient Preparation:

  • Standard blood collection procedure.

Specimen Type:

  • Lavender (EDTA) (Preferred)
  • Yellow (ACD-A or ACD-B) (Acceptbale)
  • Pink (K2EDTA) (Acceptable)

Minimum Volume:

  • 3.0mL of whole blood

Reasons for Rejection:

  • Specimen does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.

Stability

Ambient: 4 Days. (Preferred)

Refrigerated: 4 Days.

Frozen: Unacceptable.
