Test Code LAB3921 HPV High Risk Screen, TMA, Pap

Important Note

  • Sources reqiured on patient label and in order.
  • This test is only intended for generalized screening of women 30 years and older, or women 21 years and older with abnormal Pap findings. 

  • This test is not intended for Medicolegal purposes. 

  • Testing will identify High-Risk HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68, but does not indicate specific typing in results. 

  • A positive result for the HPV High Risk Screen will reflex testing for HPV Genotypes 16 and 18/45.

Collection

Patient Preparation:

Broom-Type Detachable Head Device 

  1. Insert Rover Cervex-Brush into the endocervical canal. 

  1. Rotate brush 5 times in a clockwise direction. 

  1. Snap the detachable head of the device off into the BD SurePath vial. Be careful not to touch the head of the device. Place the cap on the vial and tighten.  

Brush/Plastic Spatula Detachable Head Device: 

  1. Insert the contoured end of the plastic spatula and rotate 360° around the entire exocervix. 

  1. Insert the Cytobrush into the endocervix until only the bottom-most bristles are exposed at the os. 

  1. Slowly rotate 1/4 to ½ turn in one direction. Do not over rotate brush. 

  1. Snap the device handle at the red scoring line and drop the detachable head of the device into the BD SurePath vial. 

  1. Place the cap on the vial and tighten.

*Specimen will be transferred from SurePath Pap Collection Vial to Aptima Transfer Tube in lab before testing.
