Collection
Patient Preparation:
- Standard blood collection procedure.
Specimen Type:
- Light Blue (Citrate)
- Promptly after collection, spin down and place 1 mL of platelet-poor plasma in plastic vial. (Glass vial is not acceptable.) Freeze imediately at ≤ -40° C, if possible

Platelet poor plasma:
-
Centrifuge, transfer top 3/4 of plasma into a plastic vial, and centrifuge plasma again.

Aliquot top 3/4 plasma into a separate plastic vial, using this for testing. Discard the vial with the remaining plasma.

Double-centrifuged specimen is critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results.

Platelet poor plasma:
Minimum Volume:
- 0.5mL
Reasons for Rejection:
- Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens, or does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.
Stability
- Ambient: 8 hours.
- Refrigerated: Not acceptable.
- Frozen: 30 days. (Preferred)
