LIGHT BLUE (CITRATE)

Promptly after collection, spin down and place 1 mL of platelet poor plasma in plastic vial. 

• Platelet poor plasma: 

  • Centrifuge, transfer top 3/4 of plasma into a plastic vial, and centrifuge plasma again.

  •  Aliquot top 3/4 plasma into a separate plastic vial, using this for testing. Discard the vial with the remaining plasma.

  • Double-centrifuged specimen is critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results.

Glass vial is not acceptable.  Freeze specimen immediately .
