  • This test is intended for screening of pregnant women at 36 weeks/ day 1- 37 weeks/ day 7 of gestation.
  • Please note on patient label and in order comments if patient is allergic to penicillin. Susceptibility testing will be automatically ordered and tested for samples with a penicillin allergy and positive GBS result.
  • Susceptibility testing is billed separately from PCR testing.

Collection

Patient Preparation:

Using an eSwab liquid Amies medium collection kit, swab the lower vagina (near the introitus) and then, using the same swab, swab the rectum (through the anal sphincter) without useing a speculum.

Specimen Type:

Vaginal/rectal swab collected in Copan eSwab.

Minimum Volume:

eSwab: Entire swab

Reasons for Rejection:

Dry swab, in a non-sterile container, or does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.

Stability

Ambient: 24 hours

Refrigerated: 6 days (Preferred)

Frozen: Unacceptable
