Patient Preparation:

• Standard blood collection procedure.

Specimen Type:

Collect blood in a serum separator or heparin plasma separator tube.

• Preferred:
  • Light Green (Heparin Plasma Separator Tube)
  • SST (Serum Separator)
• Accepable
  • Red (No Additive)
  • Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin)

Centrifuge and aliquot 1.0 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. 

Minimum Volume:

• 0.3mL of serum or plasma (approximately 0.6mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit).

Reject Due To:

• Specimen does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.
